Joey Grihalva is a writer and cultural critic from the American Midwest.

His paternal family immigrated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin from Quito, Ecuador prior to America's industrial decline. He grew up in the Sherman Park neighborhood. 

Grihalva went to college in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he created the hip-hop news and variety web-series in 2007.

In 2011, he received a graduate diploma in journalism from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Grihalva lived in Minneapolis, Edinburgh (Scotland), Montreal, and rural Oregon before moving back to his hometown in late 2013.

In 2014, he began writing for Urban Milwaukee. In the summer of 2016, he became the feature writer for the website of 88Nine Radio Milwaukee and a contributing writer to the Wisconsin Gazette.

Grihalva also coaches high school tennis, works as a substitute teacher in the Milwaukee Public Schools, and produces live music events in Milwaukee. 

He lives in Walker’s Point with his girlfriend and her two children.
